Castle’s Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic Drop Scoop on Their TV Romance: “You Will Be Happy!”

Hear that? It’s the sound of fangirls squeeing. And OK, so some of them are coming from our own office.

Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and the rest of the Castle crew are floating five spoilers your way, and one of them has to do with a certain fan-favorite couple…

1. Just Kiss Already! After nearly four full seasons, Caskett fans can stop crossing those fingers and toes because we’ve learned that things are finally going to progress! When we asked why it has taken so long, Fillion was very quick to defend their slow-moving flirtations, saying, “Our writers have been very talented and very deft about dealing with the ebb and flow of a relationship with two people who don’t meet eye-to-eye.” He continues, “We’ve been dealing with a lot of ebb lately, especially towards the end of the season, we’re going to get a lot of ebb, but right at the end we’re going to get some flow.” Hooray for flow! Stana Katic also confirmed it, “Oh yeah, the end of this season you guys are going to be happy.” She repeated with a coy laugh, “Any Caskett fans out there: You will be happy!” Squee!

2. Who’s Your Daddy?: In the jam-packed two-parter “Pandora/Linchpin”, fans were shocked when psycho Sophia (Jennifer Beale) revealed that Castle’s father was involved in the CIA. Showrunner Andrew Marlowe assures us that the Daddy dilemma will be touched upon, but it might take a while to get an answer. “I think it’s a little mystifying for Castle because he doesn’t know if he can trust what Sophia said, and if your father is in the CIA, how do you find out? But it is something that we’re going to be exploring as we move forward in the series.” Start throwing out your dream-castings!

3. Firefly Fandemonium: By now, you should already be well aware that Adam Baldwin is coming to reunite with his fellow Firefly castmate Nathan Fillion! And if you didn’t well then, it’s not like we’re judging you or anything. (We totally are.) Fillion assured us that Firefly fanatics will be more than pleased: “I’m reading the script right now and I’ve already seen two Firefly references!” Baldwin will be playing Ethan Slaughter, a no-nonsense detective from the city’s gang unit whom Castle is very eager to follow on a case and Fillion revealed that Slaughter is a very “Jayne character” on the show.

4. Más “Esplanie” Por Favor: Tamala Jones teases this on what’s ahead for Lanie’s love life: “I’ve been hearing little whispers on set. The writers are exploring the dynamic between Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Lanie; even though [they've] broken up, there’s still something lingering.” The kinda-sorta couple will be addressing the issues they had the first time around. “I think Lanie’s problem is opening up completely, whereas Esposito is so open.” We are rooting for this couple simply for the fact that their shipper name “Esplanie” is so much fun to say.

5. Galmance: Jones also was excited to share that for the first time Kate and Lanie are going to be seen outside of the precinct together for some bestie bonding. “We get some girl time and it’s really nice. It’s what you and I would be if we were girlfriends, the way we would talk, the realness, the passion, I hope you guys love it.” Can we expect some Caskett gossip? “Oh for sure! And Lanie is not holding back on that subject. She is so pro [Caskett], but she’s like, ‘Get on it sister! It’s been so long!”

Preach.

Stana Katic: ‘Castle’ Romance to Heat Up

On the ABC hit show Castle (Mondays, 10 p.m. ET), Detective Kate Beckett is the picture of proficiency. Stana Katic, the actress who plays her, isn’t too shabby either.

The 33-year old Canadian native speaks four languages (and counting), has a penchant for globetrotting, and wants to reinvent Los Angeles one pedestrian at a time through The Alternative Travel Project.

During a break between scenes, she spoke to PARADE about the ever-blossoming tension between Beckett and Castle and all that fan fever over her luxurious locks.

What does Stana mean?
“I was named for my grandmother. It’s an evil-eye name, to protect you from bad things.”

Does the Canadian side of you ever come out? Do you say “eh” a lot?
“I do. People ask ‘How do you get so eh-ish?’ I don’t know if it’s just because so much of my family still lives in Canada and I finished studies up there. Nathan [Fillion, her co-star] is Canadian and he doesn’t seem to hold on to that as I do. It just depends, you know? Like when I talk to someone from Toronto, like one of my girlfriends or family, that kind of accent flowers a little bit.”

You’re 5-foot-9. Have you always enjoyed being tall?
“I’m the shortest in my family, and it really bums me out! As the oldest [of six], I was tallest for a while. Now, at family functions, they will full-on throw me over their shoulders.”

What languages do you speak?
“Serbian, obviously English, Italian, and French. Some of it I studied and some of it I learned from my home life. My parents are European immigrants. And I think as Europeans there are so many languages in close proximity that it’s part of the culture to try to learn at least one other language. So my parents really encourage it in the house. Chinese would be really great to learn — like Mandarin or Cantonese. Portuguese would be incredible.”

Stana to be Honored for Performances at 16th Annual Prism Awards

The Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. (EIC) has announced winners for several of its performance awards at the upcoming 16th Annual PRISM Awards. Actors Stana Katic and Jon Huertas of ABC’s Castle have been selected to receive Performance in a Drama Episode honors. Caterina Scorsone of ABC’s Private Practice will be presented with Female Performance in a Drama Multi-Episode Storyline, and Craig T. Nelson of NBC’s Parenthood will be honored with Male Performance in a Drama Multi-Episode Storyline. The announcement was made by EIC President & CEO Brian Dyak.

Performance awards are presented to those actors who displayed unparalleled authenticity in their portrayals of characters in productions related to mental health and/or substance use issues including alcohol use, illegal drug use, prescription drug use, depression, suicide, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, bipolar, and other related topics. The PRISM Awards honor television and film productions and performances that accurately depict drug, alcohol and tobacco use and addiction, as well as mental health issues in entertainment productions. The awards will be presented on April 19, 2012 at a ceremony in Beverly Hills.

Craig T. Nelson’s role as Zeek Braverman, in NBC’s Parenthood, tackles the difficulties of adjusting to and helping to raise a grandson with Asperger’s Syndrome. Nelson brings his character’s unique nature to life, demonstrating how a person transforms once they accept and develop an understanding and respect for a special needs child. His portrayal of a parent’s love for his children and the mental and emotional toll these life experiences take on a family earned him his PRISM Award.

Caterina Scorsone portrayed the challenges and unique situations that result from her character’s prescription drug and alcohol addiction, and ultimate recovery. The true-to-life circumstances Private Practice’s Amelia Shepherd finds herself in help bring home the idea that addiction can be overcome, however challenging it may seem. Although Amelia is a brilliant doctor, she struggles with her addiction. Throughout this past year Scorsone accurately depicted the consequences of misuse of prescription drugs and alcohol. Scorsone’s work, from drug-fueled affair to facing her colleagues as they attempt an intervention, has been called “captivating” and “riveting.”

Stana Katic and Jon Huertas share the performance award in the drama series category. Katic, in her role on Castle as NYPD detective Kate Beckett, portrays her character suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) after being shot by a sniper while on the job. Katic demonstrates the difficulties of living with PTSD while trying to lead a normal, functional life. She imparts an emotional depiction of a woman with the strength and will to move on with the help of her support system.

Huertas’ character on the series, NYPD homicide detective Javier Esposito, relates to Beckett’s trauma as someone who experienced his own difficulties while serving in the Iraq War. He demonstrates the pivotal role of a support system for someone suffering from PTSD, using unorthodox, yet effective, methods to help his colleague.

Winners in the TV, film and music production categories will be announced at the April 19th ceremony. For more information on the PRISM Awards and a complete list of nominees, please visit http://www.prismawards.com.
